The plane took off on Monday morning local time Airport in the Japanese city of Nagoya. Due to the bad weather on June 1 plane had to land in Japan. According to the plan, the machine had to fly to Hawaii directly from Nanking in China.

The organizers stress that Borschberg set a new time record for non-stop flight alone; previous record belonged to Steve Fossett, who in 2006 flew around the world around within 76 hours specially designed jet aircraft.

Solar Impulse 2 never before flying over the ocean and not remain in the air for more than 24 hours.

The next stage will be solar airplane Phoenix, Arizona. It is not known yet when the Solar Impulse 2 start for the flight; it will depend on weather conditions.

historic flight around the world Solar Impulse 2 began on 9 March in Abu Dhabi . The route is divided into several stages. Planned stops are designed to rest pilots – Bernard Piccard and Borschberg – a review of the aircraft and campaign for clean energy.

The aircraft is equipped with over 17 thousand. photovoltaic cells covering its wings with a length of 72 meters. It’s almost as much as the wingspan of an Airbus A380.

The energy from photovoltaic cells is stored in lithium batteries ion batteries that power four electric motors. Solar Impulse 2, built of carbon fiber, weighs 2.3 tons. Its top speed is 140 km / h and a practical ceiling – 8500 meters. Light weight makes it very vulnerable to the vagaries of weather and air currents.

Solar Impulse 2 is the successor the first of this type of machinery, Solar Impulse 1, which, among others, was a multi-stage flight by the United States in 2013.
