The Northern Lights is produced by solar flares, when large amounts of charged particles that are ejected from the Sun and rush through the solar system, sometimes crashing into the planet.

The magnetic field affects the planet in only two places: at the poles. The particles – moving around the magnetic field lines – come to the Earth’s atmosphere is in the Arctic regions.
