The US space agency unveiled pictures of the surface of Mars, where the action takes place in a fictional latest film “Martian,” which is Polish cinemas for about two weeks. The photos were taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.
Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter orbits around Mars since 2006. On its equipment, in particular, the HiRISE – camera with high resolution. This was achieved thanks to the many detailed photographs the surface of the Red Planet. Until now, the earth reached 39,000 photographs from this instrument. Each picture covers an area of several square kilometers and may be on them to see details about the size of a desk.
The probe is part of the space agency NASA. The Americans decided recently to present images of areas on Mars associated with the action of the novel Fri. “Martian” by Andy Weier and film of the same name directed by Ridley Scott. The fictional story book and movie tells the story of the expedition astronauts to Mars, the third manned mission to the planet. The mission is called Ares 3.
The landing site mission Ares 3 is a plain called Acidalia Planitia. NASA has presented several photographs of the area. Also shown is the image the crater edge Mawrth and the area of the planned landing mission Ares 4, which also play an important role in the story book and film.
