Samsung unveiled this week Samsung SSD 950 Pro, designed for demanding consumers and companies that use computers and laptops with high performance. M.2 format means that users ultrathin notebooks and workstations can use the storage characterized by high durability, reliability and energy efficiency.
The Samsung 950 Pro is the first SSD from Samsung for private users equipped with a controller Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe). M.2 disc format is based on vertical architecture NAND (V-NAND) and supports PCI Express 3.0. With the introduction of NVMe, the first protocol optimized for SSDs, the Samsung 950 Pro users will be able to reap the benefits of better performance and lower power consumption translates into increase the battery life of the device and reduce the cost of its operation. M.2 2280 Compact format ensures compatibility with the latest desktop and mobile platforms equipped with slots and interfaces M.2 PCIe .
Samsung 950 Pro interface x4 and PCIe Gen.3 NVMe protocol support provides higher performance random and sequential read and write data in comparison with drives based on the Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) utilizing an older protocol Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI). App, which counts a high number of input and output operations per second (IOPS), notice even four times performance improvement compared to traditional SSD drives.
Disk 950 PRO will be available in capacities 512 and 256 gigabytes (GB). 512 GB version has a top speed sequential read and write data according to the 2500 MB / s to 1500 MB / s . During the random disk read operations running at a pace to 300 000 IOPS and write operations are carried out at speeds 110 000 IOPS . The drive uses second-generation 32-tiered bones of the Samsung MLC V-NAND 128 Gb controller UBX and software Magician.
The design of the drive ensures a solid, offers full AES encryption with 256-bit key ensures data security, and Dynamic thermal protection function Thermal Guard protects the device and data at extreme temperatures from 0 to 70 degrees Celsius. The disc is also resistant to physical shock to 1,500 G / 0.5 msec and vibrations up to 20 G.
The drives are covered by a 5-year limited warranty to a total of 200 terabytes written (TBW) for the version with a capacity of 256 TBW 400 GB and 512 GB versions. 950 PRO will be available from early October of 2015. We do not know Polish prices, but in the United States for the version of the 256GB will have to pay $ 199 (751 PLN), and a 512GB – 349 $ (1318 PLN).
