Samsung Gear VR goggles virtual reality, which is a collaboration between Samsung and Oculus. How they work, what they offer, and is it worth it to buy them?

Gear VR is a joint effort between Samsung and Oculus. The company, developing its own project three-dimensional goggles Oculus Rift provided to Samsung technology and proven solutions , concerning, among others determining the position of the head and display the image.
Gear VR goggles to act require one of the few smartphones from Samsung – the phone is in this case first of all display and provides the computing power needed to operate the running applications. What’s in the box?

How does it work?

Goggles do not have their own source of energy and when you connect your phone use of the battery. After plugging the charger to the microUSB with low energy device uses an external power supply. When energy consumption increases, are used both mains and battery smartphone, and when the goggles are not used, loaded them is connected to the phone.

When you connect your phone to automatically runs goggles Oculus VR application, supported using head movements and touchpad . Other applications are turned off, and during the use of goggles you can not leave Oculus VR environment. The application is not accessible from the Google Play – installs when you connect your smartphone to the goggles.

Oculus VR provides support for downloaded content and applications, as well as configure the device itself. It gives access, among others, information on the phone , notifications, which can be disabled for Do Not Disturb, noteworthy feature is the Comfort mode Mode, intended for users who plan longer use the machine – after starting this mode the image will be added blue tint, less tiring eyes.

An important facilitation is also an option passthrough Camera, which allows to rear view camera phone . Thus, the user can see what is happening around him without downloading goggles from his head.

Software

Access to the software provides shop Oculus Share Offering both free and – less numerous – paid applications. Normally we get a basic set, consisting of Oculus 360 Photos, Videos Oculus 360, Oculus VR Cinema and Gallery.

The first two are responsible for playing – respectively – of photographs and videos spherical, allowing you to freely look around. Oculus Cinema provides the opportunity to watch regular video , moving the user to the cinema and offering him some unusual points of view. The last application allows you to view pictures and videos.
