This is a very important discovery, perhaps the most important in the last decade or and even in the long term. And this for a few reasons – says Dr. Nicholas Urbanowski of the University of Szczecin:

* First, because most discoveries of new species homininów based on a single bone, sometimes it is just jaw, finger bones, one skull. And here we have the remains of at least 15 individuals, more than 1,500 bones and teeth! The head of a team of researchers estimated that the cave was found more bones homininów than the last 90 years throughout South Africa.

* Second, if confirmed the presumptions explorers on the age of the finds, Homo Naledi lived in a time when just formed a kind of homo (man). This is a very important step in the evolution of hominids.

* Thirdly, in this almost inaccessible cave only human remains were found. He could not have accumulated predator, because he continued to prey and humans, and animals. So it appears that the bones in the cave was made deliberately. It would be a kind of cultural behavior, perhaps a funeral rite. So far, the oldest intentional burials were known before about 430 thousand. years, and can be repeatedly older! In addition, in order to reach the so difficult to access parts of the cave, people had to demonstrate a real skills, including perhaps the ability to make fire.

The recognition also evokes the way of presenting the research results. In archeology and paleoanthropology explorers often they hold the bones with him for decades, without showing other scientists. Meanwhile, here the bones were scanned in three dimensions, and so prepared the images placed on the Internet site accessible to all interested parties. Anyone can so it can print in 3D and tested in his laboratory. This is very good practice – may these were more and more! Even critics of this work is appreciated. And this publication may be accused of several things.

First, it is at a very preliminary stage. There is no such precise dating of remains. This is however understandable, unless the stratigraphy of this place is very difficult, the layers of rock are mixed. It is not easy to find. In addition, the bones are very diverse. It can not be ruled out that they belong not to one species hominina but a few. It is therefore a very valuable find, which still do not fully understand.
