Deutsche Telekom and Inmarsat start work on the Internet in airplanes – TELEPOLIS.PL

Deutsche Telekom and Inmarsat announced a strategic partnership to create the European Aviation Network – a network that will enable air passengers access to the Internet.
 

 
 The beginning of commercial service implementation would arise in 2017 years. Passengers aircraft in the European Union countries will have access to the Internet by means of a specially prepared LTE transmitters with Inmarsat satellites. The base stations, which in Europe is expected to create 300 will have eight times greater range than standard LTE transmitters (80 km). Thanks to a network of MSS (ang. Satelite mobile services). Internet is available via terrestrial transmitters up to 10 thousand. feet, and after crossing the passengers will be switched to satellite transmitters. Switching will be invisible to the user and has no problem to deal with a cruise speed of the aircraft.
 

 
 One year earlier, in 2016. Lufthansa passengers will have access to the Internet in airplanes via Inmarsat satellite transmitters.
