… The Pillars of Destruction rmf24.pl

Scientists from the European southern Observatory (ESO) has received a new, impressive pictures of a giant, reminiscent of the column structures in the region of the Carina Nebula. Clouds of gas and dust, a bit like the famous formation the Pillars of Creation from the eagle Nebula should, in their opinion, are called… Pillars of Destruction. The data analysis brought evidence for the fact that these columns destroys the radiation of nearby massive stars.

For the study used a instrument MUSE (Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer) is installed on the telescope belonging to the ESO VLT, which can simultaneously carry thousands of photos for different wavelengths of radiation. Their analysis allows astronomers to make maps of the chemical and physical properties of substances at various points in the nebula. if all the columns observed that clear-cut effects of radiation emitted by nearby massive stars. It seems that one of the first effects of the formation of massive stars is the beginning of the process of destruction of the cloud from which it emerged.

Hypothesis, that massive stars have a strong influence on his environment is not new. It is known that send a giant quantity of ionizing radiation whose energy is sufficient to knock electrons out of atoms. Still it was difficult, however, obserwacyjnie confirm this effect. This time managed to perform the whole process of the so-called fotoparowania, when the gas is ionized and, in turn, scatters. It is clear that the process of weight loss related to the amount of ionizing radiation emitted by nearby stars.

what at first glance seems like a cosmic catastrophe, may in practice lead to the stars. Clouds of dust and gas, though, and seem pretty gesture may be in practice highly scattered. The intense radiation of massive stars can lead to the emergence of local zagęszczeń and thus to accelerate the creation of new ones. The authors write about it in the journal “Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society”.
