The four new elements in the periodic table – Focus

The seventh row of the periodic system was officially full. Along with actinides counts now 32 elements.

elements verified by experts from the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry and announced that a team of Russian and American researchers has provided evidence that the discovery of elements 115, 117 and 118. Element 113 Japanese researchers discovered institute Riken.

In theory may also be provided by Glenn T. Seaborg in 1969, elements of the eighth period – from 119 to 168, but so far none have failed to obtain. It is not clear where the dividing line is the periodic table. Each subsequent element becomes difficult to achieve – obtained atoms disintegrate in a split second. But perhaps there are undiscovered “islands of stability” – the elements a little longer.

The teams that have made discoveries can now propose names and chemical symbols of new elements. Names can relate to mythology (helium from Helios, the sun god, promethium from Prometheus), refer to the mineral (aluminum, silicon), place or country (Americas, Europe, trans, germanium, polonium, ruthenium – Rhutenia to say “Russia”) properties (chlorine from Chloros – yellow-green) or the name of the scientist (Einstein, Copernicus, mendelevium, nobel).

The first version of the periodic system introduced in 1869, the Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev. The newest system increased in 2011, when the added elements 114 and 116.
