It was a dramatic end one of the most important space mission. American Messenger probe hit the surface of Mercury – NASA confirmed.
The collision was planned. Messenger had no fuel, decreased flight and hit the surface. Kilkunastometrowy gouged a crater. It runs much longer than expected. The probe has made ten important discoveries: examine the history of volcanic lava planet’s magnetic field and confirmed that on hot Mercury are the deposits of water ice.
“But the most important thing was to analyze the chemical composition, we found potassium and sulfur . And there they had not been. And now we know that the history of planet formation was different than that assumed by many earlier theories, “explained Sean Solomon of NASA.
Over the ten-year mission Messenger defeated 14 billion kilometers, along with Mercury circled the sun more than 30 times and sent nearly three hundred thousand images.
