3D printer for the blind constructed by … 12-year-old – Virtual Poland

Not only is the device itself is very interesting, but also its creator. It is from Belgium 12-year-old Shubham Banerjee, who first version of the printer built with LEGO bricks science fair.

The printer named by the boy Braigo (a combination of “Braille” and “LEGO”) was created with LEGO Mindstorms EV3 and additional materials (eg. Paper roll), the cost of which does not exceed a total of $ 350. The printer can print all the letters of the alphabet. This is not the device excellent. The boy admits that the letters are printed one below the other, and the mechanical element with a needle to prepare each character takes about 7 seconds. Using the printer is not so simple that even younger children can deal with it.

The idea thrilled to Microsoft , which decided to support the young inventor and help make him slightly improved version of the device. The Redmond giant also wants to create an interface that would work with Braigo and would be available immediately for Windows. It’s nice that giants like Microsoft do not forget about help for people with disabilities. We are pleased also that Microsoft is able to treat invention teenager seriously enough to ensure him such great support. Such initiatives we strongly support.
