So far Storytel was present on the markets of Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Dutch. Now the service has extended its offer also for Poland.

Storytel based on the reception of audio books in streaming technology. As part of the monthly subscription, which in Poland is 29,90 zł user receives access to a library of audiobooks, which can listen to without any restrictions.

Currently the offer of Polish Storytel is 600 titles in Polish and 16 thousand. audiobooks and 4 thousand. English e-books. Books you can listen to on your tablet or smartphone. The website supports the operating systems iOS, Android and Windows. Listening to audiobooks is done online with the option to save up to 5 books offline, making it possible to use the application even without access to the network. To There are also additional functions, such as changing the playback speed, the function of sleep to automatically turn off the application after one or several quarters, the ability to add your own bookmarks and notes, and if the book is also available as an ebook – free switching between listening and reading.

In an interview with service Wirtualnemedia.pl Michael Scholz, managing director Storytel Poland, characterized the offer currently available in the local version of the site. – The Polish offer Storytel currently consists mainly popular literature: detective stories, women’s literature, thriller, fantasy – lists Michael Scholz. – When preparing our audiobooks work with many popular lectors and actors are among them Jacek Rozenek or Maciej Perchuc. We make sure that our audiobook narrators read always good, even when they are not very familiar with our name. For now, Polish-language audiobooks are, of course, a small part of the whole offer which is chiefly the titles in English, but we have ambitious plans. This year, they include the introduction of 100 to 200 new positions in our language, although much depends here on issues licenses. Safe to assume that each month will be about 10 Polish-language audio books are our copyright productions – says the head of the Polish Storytel.

When asked what prompted bosses Storytel to enter the Polish market, Szolc draws attention to napping its potential. – Looking at the possibilities of the Polish market of audio books you have to see it in two ways – marks Szolc. – Today approx. 300 thousand. Users in Poland say they regularly use audiobooks. Three times the number admitted that over the last year listening to the audio book, but he did not pay. In contrast, the greatest potential lies in the age group 25 – 49 years, which admittedly do not buy yet audiobooks, but actively smartphones and are our target group. Just to convince them that audiobooks are an interesting form of the use of literature in the most convenient way possible. By the end of this year. we would like to have approx. 10 thousand. subsrybentów. It’s a safe assumption. You have to remember that by introducing our offer we face with other subscription services. A user who wants to listen to our audiobook must refrain from other forms of receipt of content – such as listening to music with Spotify.

When you decide to expand on the Polish market Storytel must reckon with the competition, mainly from the parent with us Audioteki. Representatives of this service chose not to comment on the appearance of Storytel in Poland. While Szolc in an interview with Wirtualnemedeia.pl estimates that the new platform will be able to meet the conditions of competition in the Polish conditions, mainly due to oferowanemu system sales.

– Our sales model differ quite significantly from what is now offering Audioteka – emphasizes Szolc. – Besides, I think this market is still space for new players and I can imagine a situation when the same user with one hand, uses a subscription to audiobooks, on the other hand buys the property of the individual titles in order to keep them for themselves offline. Subscription model in case the user reduces the risk of shopping and the need for an unambiguous decide which title he wants to buy permanently. It gives customers the freedom to choose from a wide range of appropriate genre suit the situation. The user can also abandon a particular reading at the moment when he finds the book he dislikes without feeling regret that he gave a lot of money just for the title – notes Szolc.

Polish electronic book industry in talks with Wirtualnemedia.pl refers favorably, though, and carefully to debut Storytel in our country. – With interest we will see the entrance to the Polish market service Storytel – says Beata Gutowska, managing director Publio.pl. – In Poland, subscription models do not have a long tradition, particularly in the book industry and the press. Customers still prefer to have purchased publications on your shelf. It seems to me that this model will be but natural for audiobooks, which means consumption is similar to listening to music through sites streaming.

On the other hand, Nicholas Małaczyński, co-founder and president of Legimi looks at Storytel curiously as on its potential competitor. – The emergence of the next player on the market is always beneficial from the point of view of the customer and has a positive effect on the market – says Nicholas Małaczyński. – We just focus on the development of the offer for reader 1 zł with subscription for ebooks. It is therefore an area where Storytel for us is not in direct competition, such a model may not be reproduced. I do not hide, however, that we are already close Legimi join our subscription offer also audio books. On the one hand, more attractive to our service, but will make us compete with both Audiotek and the Storytel. It is difficult to assess whether the new entity there is a wider awareness of Polish consumers – emphasizes Małaczyński.
