The growing role of mobile technology – Computerworld

The findings are described in the latest edition of the Mobility Report 2015 published today by Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) show that by 2020, advanced mobile technology will be widely used throughout the world: the number of subscriptions smartphones will more than double, reaching 6.1 billion. 70% of the world’s population will use smartphones, and 90% will be within the coverage of mobile broadband networks.

A comprehensive report on current mobile trends shows that growth in developed markets due to increased number of devices per individual user. In developing regions, it results while a flurry of new subscriptions made possible by more favorable prices of smartphones; the end of 2020 nearly 80% of smartphone subscriptions will come from Asia / Pacific, Middle East and Africa.

With the continuous growth quantity, there is a rapid increase in the use of data: is expected tenfold increase in the amount of data used by smartphones to 2020, when 80 percent of all mobile data traffic will come from smartphones. The average monthly data usage on smartphones in North America will increase from 2.4 GB to 14 GB in 2020.

The sharp increase in the number of applications and the falling cost of an Internet connection are key factors for the increase in the number of devices connected to the Internet . The increase is mainly driven by the changing preferences of the users of the services streaming video content and the growing dominance of video content on the Internet, including news, advertising and social media.

When we look at the use of the data in developed markets, mobile broadband, we see that a significant part of the movement is generated by a limited number of subscribers. These users data represent 10 percent of all subscribers, but generate 55 percent of all traffic data. Among the data consumed by these users dominate video content. They watch about an hour of video per day, which is 20 times more than the average users.

The report on mobility Ericsson shows data forecasting, analysis and provides insight into mobile data traffic, subscriptions and consumer behavior, making we know the current trends and market movement occurring in the network society.

Ericsson regularly measures the movement in more than 100 networks operating in all regions around the world. Detailed measurements are performed in selected commercial WCDMA / HSPA and LTE, and their goal is to explore various data traffic patterns.
