Dr. Harrison Schmitt, although hard to believe, is now 80 years old. During a visit to the Regional Centre for Science and Technology in Podzamcze Chęciny often joked and willingly talked about his trip – he was a participant in the last manned mission to the moon Apollo 17′s lunar rover conducted there, so with a clear interest watched the structures that participated in the competition.

– Whatever you do in the future will be those young people who constructed rovers, it is very important for building their life experiences. It is important for competition, but also science work together in teams – told reporters.

His lecture listened to a few hundred people. Harrison Schmitt, among others, most famous and beautiful picture fully illuminated Earth, which then performed, and the literature is called “The Blue Marble”. He explained why he did not see on the Polish. – Our trajectory was so set to land in the northern hemisphere of the Moon – says Harrison Schmitt.

Astronaut very willing to answer questions. And these were very different. Among other things, what he dreamed of the moon. – I do not recall any dreams. Interestingly, the letter also interested, but we do not remember any dreams, although I was rested. I think that never we ran in this phase of sleep, because all the time at the back of the head, we knew to pay attention to whether everything works well. Perhaps only our commander slept deeply – said Harrison Schmitt. He had no doubt that before people will fly to Mars, should first go to the moon. – It’s faster and with less risk. In addition, we have examined only a small part of the moon and still big issues to resolve, especially after dark side – believes astronaut.

The competition itself in Podzamcze dominated by Canadians – First place was won by the rover prepared by students of the University of Saskatchewan, and the third McGill University. Second place went to Bialystok Technical University. That went well too Kielce University of Technology students – Pulse prepared by the Faculty of Mechatronics and Machine Building took fifth place, and Fumar FUPLA prepared by a team from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automation and Computer Science – 8th place.
