With goggles HoloLens come holograms? Microsoft presents Holoportację – dobreprogramy

Goggles HoloLens from Microsoft due to the fairly fresh approach to the extended (and not entirely “virtual”) reality, they stand out in the increasingly tighter shelf VR. The only aspect in which they are to be used is communication. Development Department Microsoft has already presented the achievements in this field. In the case of goggles HoloLens, Microsoft has set a rather unusual work schedule: the next tests whether the sale of the Dev constitute an operation on a living organism, and the venture is expected to reach the final (consumer) phase in an undefined future. Until then, we can only observe another more or less practical or effective presentations. I must admit that on the background of achievements, Holoportacja makes quite an impression.

In practice, it is capable of scanning a form based on what will create the three-dimensional model, including high-resolution textures. The whole has to be compressed and sent to the caller, where it will be able to see the model in their goggles. Microsoft does not hesitate to compare the possibilities holoportacji the hologram, regardless of that, see “hologram” can only goggles HoloLens.

Holoportacja would not be possible thanks to the advanced three-dimensional and two-dimensional cameras. It can be assumed that their system which allows you to scan the environment and separation as the caller, and tracking his movements and transfer to HoloLens goggles will not be among the best.

The project is not the only experiment of Microsoft in terms of quasihologramów. Some time ago we wrote about Room2Room, which – using a system composed of a camera and projector – sued to display two-dimensional image of the caller. In the case of same Holoportacji would be fitting to consider whether in her case it is really necessary to use a three-dimensional model.

Presented film (though you can see that he was right “tweaked”) presents a fact already working prototypes. In the lower left corner of the visible is a preview of goggles HoloLens. There is no doubt that the image of the caller, despite some simplifications in the geometry looks impressively. And it is enough that you could ask the question whether the well would not be possible to use the two-dimensional model, which would preclude the need to use several 3D cameras and compression. We do not know when the new Microsoft will be made available to a wider group of testers, but Holoportacja certainly looks like something to look forward to.
