The aim of the mission is to determine whether Mars once existed or still exists life. ExoMars will reach the Red Planet for seven months. It consists of two elements. One of them is a satellite that from a height of approx. 400 km over five years will perform accurate images of the Martian soil and examine whether there is in it traces of specific gases (eg. Methane), which can prove the existence of mikroroganizmów. The second - the lander Schiaparelli (named after the Italian astronomer, discoverer of the famous Martian "canals"), whose main objective is to explore the Martian atmosphere and demonstrate the possibilities of precision landing using brake motors.

Schiaparelli is to enter into a thin atmosphere of the red planet at an altitude of approx. 122 km at a speed of 21 thousand. km / hr. and using a parachute and brake motors for speed of 7 km / h. When you hang 2 m above the surface of Mars, engines are switched off and the lander will collapse down, and his hard landing in the plain of Meridiani Planum (after which she used to flow water) has a cushion Special crumple zone.

The Red Planet lander 'will live "for about a week - and then run out his batteries.

In designing research instruments mission ExoMars participated Polish Space Research Centre in Warsaw, and our two companies - Creotech Instruments SA and VIGO System SA

CBK, supported by, among others, by Creotech, produced a camera mounted in a satellite observation. In turn, the company has created VIGO infrared detectors, which the French and the Germans installed a monitoring system in the outer shell of the lander Schiaparelli.

The European Space Agency and Roscosmos have announced that this is only the beginning of cooperation. In 2018., Still in the mission ExoMars, intend to send to the Red Planet yet another poll, this time equipped with a rover (probe Schiaparelli has him pave the way, testing the technique of landing). Sześciokołowy vehicle will have, among others, drill to collect soil samples even with a depth of 2 m. All samples will be examined on board the rover, and the results - transmitted to Earth via the sent was from Baikonur satellite.

In the case of Euro-Russian mission ExoMars is an expedition one way. In the 20 ESA and other space agencies, however, they want to send to the Red Planet probe, which will return to Earth with samples of Martian soil.
