A giant iceberg is getting closer and closer to separation from Antarctica – Onet.pl

If increased by a further 20 kilometers, it comes to a final separation from the ice shelf named Larsen C. a Powerful piece of ice will be drifting island. She had an area of one-fourth of lower Silesia – about five thousand square kilometers.

Professor Andrew Luckman from the University of Swansea is watching the whole process. Expert writes in his blog that can accurately predict when there will be separation of the iceberg.

Previously, scientists speculated that if the entire ice shelf Larsen C oderwałby from Antarctica melted, the ocean level will rise 10 inches. He added, however, that in this case it is also impossible to determine whether it happens at all.
