NATO SUMMIT IN WARSAW

 

The president Duda stressed that the NATO Summit must bring stability in times of uncertainty, manifest the unity, provide security in times of threat. He stressed that the Alliance must also “confirm the principle of the indivisibility of their security.”


 

“Open Door Policy”

 

According to him, NATO should also stay open door policy. As pointed out, a threat to our security is not a specific state or nation, but the policy of aggression and lack of respect for human dignity.

– The stability of the Euro-Atlantic region is dependent on safety and security beyond its borders. Honoring their commitments to defense, we must at the same time deepen cooperation with all our partners, both our eastern and southern neighborhood, by supporting their defense capabilities. NATO should stay open door policy and I am glad that the Prime Minister of Montenegro is here with us today – the president said.


 

– There are surrounded by enemies. We are surrounded by challenges. We have to make them not only through defense and deterrence, but also through dialogue. We remain ready to engage in dialogue with anyone who shares our attitude. At the same time strongly advocate on the side of our values ​​in the belief that dialogue can not compromise nor peace, nor the principles of international law – said Andrzej Duda.


 

According to Duda, the leaders of democratic states have a particular responsibility to the citizens, “so they can feel safe, enjoy prosperity, to live in peace.” – I firmly believe that the efforts made by us in the next two days will result in the decisions necessary for the implementation of this commitment – he added.


 

How to strengthen the Alliance

 

The meeting – as reported Stoltenberg – focused around the theme of strengthening the defense capability and deterrence. – We see challenges to our security in many ways and many places. But NATO is here in order to ensure that our citizens are safe. That our countries are secure. And that our values ​​are preserved – he stressed the Secretary General, opened the session.

– We agree to strengthen our presence here in Poland, and Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Also strengthen our presence in the south-eastern part of the Alliance – said Jens Stoltenberg.


 

It also pointed to plans to expand the cyber-security and to defend against ballistic missiles. – This requires political will – he pointed out.


 

Stoltenberg pointed out that Poland is a very involved and important partner of the Alliance and one of the countries that pay the full premium 2-percent. GDP for security. He also pointed out that the Poles support the allied mission in Afghanistan, thanked for their participation in the commitment to the fight against the Islamic State by sending a training-battle airplanes and F-16.

Participation in the plenary of the NATO summit and the three bilateral talks. It plans the president on the second day of the Alliance leaders at the National Stadium. Before noon Andrzej Duda will meet with the President of Latvia Mr Raimonds VEJONIS. Poland declares sending troops under NATO battalion to that country. This decision should be announced today during the NATO summit. Yesterday, Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski told IAR that sending Polish troops to Latvia, but also in other places is an expression of our solidarity within the Alliance.


 

On the other hand, in the afternoon (14.15) Andrzej Duda will talk with President of Ukraine Petro Poroszenką. No coincidence, because at 15, along with other leaders will attend the meeting on Ukraine.
