Kepler-62f – where life could exist – Interia

Scientists have identified a new exoplanet, where there may be conditions conducive to the creation and maintenance of life. Interestingly, the planet Kepler-62f is away from us “only” 1,200 light years away.

Is the planet Kepler-62f life could exist?

Recent studies have shed new light on the chances of discovering life on planets orbiting red dwarfs. Probably not the best place for the development of intelligent civilizations. read more

The exoplanet owes its name Space Telescope Kepler, who discovered it in 2013. Kepler-62f is the fifth and most distant planet of the system. Now, NASA experts together with researchers from the University of California looked at the construction of a closer.

Kepler-62f orbits the star smaller and cooler than the sun. The planet is about 40 percent. the size of Earth and is more distant from its star than we are from the sun. For this reason, the atmosphere requires more carbon to maintain the surface of liquid water.

The direct observations of exoplanets, such as Kepler-62f are impossible, but thanks to models of computer scientists are able to create different variants of the composition of the atmosphere.

– We found a number of possible compositions weather, allowing to keep on this planet liquid water. It makes Kepler-62f is a serious candidate planets capable of residence – said Aomawa Shields, lead author of the study.

described egzoplanecie there may be conditions to sustain life, if the atmosphere is 3-5 times thicker than earth and consists exclusively of carbon dioxide.

there are currently only a few exoplanets, of discovered so far approx. 2300′s ekosferach their stars. Through analysis of the planet Kepler-62f in the future can go to develop new climate models, which will allow for more effective targeting of foreign objects.
