The main events in the life of Rosetta TVN Meteo

Ended the Rosetta mission, organized by the Union Space Agency (ESA). Thursday at 22.50 h at an altitude of 19 km from the comet were performed the ultimate maneuver. On Friday. 13.22 Moscow time, the probe collided with the comet. It was controlled by the meeting, which took place at a rate equal quick step of the man.

it was the first ever landing of a probe on a comet. The mission was a success and delivered valuable data to scientists for further study. We have prepared an overview of 12 years of this historic mission in space.

Chronology

Passing through me objects:

March 4, 2005 – the probe passed the Earth,

- 25 Feb 2007 – the probe passed Mars,

- November 13, 2007 – re-mijanie of the Earth,

- September 5, 2008 – mijanie asteroid Steins

- November 13, 2009 even mijanie Earth

- July 10, 2010 – mijanie of the asteroid Lutetia.

Key events during the mission:

In March 2010, appeared the first image of the comet taken through the probe.

on June 8, 2011 to 20 January 2014, the probe flew in sleep mode.

In may 2014, the probe approached the comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko.

August 6, 2014 has occurred the input of the probe on the comet’s orbit Czurumow-Gierasiemienko. Then it began planned research and made accurate shooting.

September 10, 2014 the preparation of accurate maps on the basis of the conducted research.

12 November 2014 released the Philae lander of the Rosetta probe on the comet surface.

Until the end of 2015, the probe was accompanied by a comet, to observe the increasing activity of the nucleus, the closer the comet is to the Sun. With the end of 2015, the probe has completed its primary mission and began extended mission.

on 30 September 2016. 13.22 Moscow time, the probe collided with the comet and completed his mission.

Rubber duck

during the mission it was established, among other things, the shape of the investigated comets. It turned out that she looks like a… rubber ducks. It is the name it adopted during negotiations pivot. It was also found that the comet is rotating in a time of 12.4 h. During the tests was the surface temperature of -68 ° C to 43 ° C.

Conditions for life

most Importantly, however, the discovery of a comet in the presence of components that are required for the existence of life. It’s a simple amino acid – glycine and phosphorus, which are part of cell membranes and DNA. Also found a large amount of oxygen, which was the fourth, in terms of abundance of gas on the comet, right on the water, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.

Composition izotopowy on the comet, however, is different than in the earthly seas and oceans – the ratio of deuterium to hydrogen is much larger than on earth. On the basis of these researches it is established that the formation of comets occurred much farther from the Sun than originally anticipated.

Churyumov-Gerasimenko

the purpose of the mission was to learn of the origin of comets and determine which are important to the Solar System. Tests were subjected to the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.

the Mission began 2 March 2004, more than a year late because of an accident. Officially ended on Wednesday 30 September at 12.40 Moscow time, with a delay of nine months, relative to the originally scheduled time.

the cost of the entire Rosetta mission is 1.4 billion Euro. This amount includes the cost of construction of the probe, tools, scientific apparatus, carrier rocket, as well as the expenses incurred in the course of the mission.

the Poles during the mission

In the Rosetta mission was also attended by Polish scientists from Warsaw Space Research Centre PAN. They had been involved in the construction of the Philae lander.

In the management team, the data systems worked Andrew Olchawa, which also supports other actions in space. One of the teams of the mission, the Polish Manager – Artur Chmielewski.

In 2014, the ESA held a competition for the film that was to accompany the awakening of the Rosetta probe from hibernation. The competition was won by Pole, Yuzik Dobrovolsky. His reward was an invitation to the control center of the mission on the day of the Philae landing.

By order of the ESA, was also a Polish film about the mission Rosetta. Sold it to Tomas Baginski.
