Journalists “New York Times” reminded that the extinction of species is taking place every day. The researchers pointed out, however, that the case of Bramble Cay melomys is unique. According to the researchers, the direct cause of the extinction of rodents was global warming, and more sea level rise and flooding the island.
Described species was discovered in 1845. The last time a living individual was studied in 2009. Since then, scientists have failed to observe nor animal, nor even the slightest clue after him. After detailed research conducted by the Office of Environment and Heritage, in collaboration with the Queensland University of Queensland we found that did not survive either one representative species.
