On board the Soyuz are Barry Wilmore American and Russian Alexander Samokutiajew and his countrywoman, Jelena Serov. It is the first in 17 years and the fourth in the history of Russian woman who went into orbit around the Earth.

They joined a three-person crew of the ISS. Wilmore, Samokutiajew and Serov spend in orbit 168 days.

After the withdrawal from service of all shuttles American space agency NASA does not have its own means of transport astronauts into orbit and must use it – for a fee – the services of the Russian Soyuz ships.
