Dmitri Mendeleev in Google Doodle – Focus

Dmitri (Dmitry) Mendeleev was born in 1834. Siberia in Tobolsk. He became famous mainly with the development of the periodic table.

His array of Dmitry Mendeleev compiled by arranging the elements by atomic numbers. The system is called a “periodic” due to the fact that the properties of elements are repeated periodically to form a group. This is due to the fact that the atomic number of the element is not only the number of protons in the nucleus, but also the electrons in an inactive state. And this directly determines the chemical properties of the element. I find these regularities was the discovery of the importance of what made the Dmitry Mendeleev. This allows you to predict the properties of elements that have not yet been discovered – Dmitri Mendeleev appointed in this way the characteristics of scandium, gallium and germanium. The principle is still working – a few months ago confirmed the existence of the following elements, which were provided in the periodic table.

Mendeleev was the youngest of fifteen children. When his father (head of school), blind and lost his job, his mother, in order to maintain such a large family, he founded the label glass. When the father died Mendeleev was only 15 years old. A few years later his mother died also.

He studied at the University of St. Petersburg at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, specialization chemical. In 1869. He composed elements because of the atomic weight, in order from smallest to largest and noticed that some of the properties are repeated at the same intervals. This law is known today under the nave, “the law of periodicity elements”. All face the elements, of which there were 63, placed on a table so that each successive has a higher atomic weight than the previous one, and their physical and chemical properties are the same in each column. Mendeleev discovered a few gaps in the boards, of which concluded that there are several elements that are not discovered. Today we know these elements, the gallium, scandium and germanium.

In his honor was named an artificially produced radioactive element with atomic number 101 – “mendelevium”. Also one of the craters on the moon, and one of the asteroid (2769), bears the name of his name – Mendeleev.
