This year’s Nobel Prize winner, 85-year-old Japanese Isamu Akasaki, is one of the oldest subjects who received the Nobel Prize in physics. The Nobel Committee in appreciation of his work on a blue LED from the 90s, to distinguish waited so over 20 years.

The Nobel Committee announced on Tuesday that this year’s Nobel Prize in physics will receive three creators of the blue LEDs: Isamu Akasaki and the Japanese Hiroshi Amano, and Shuji Nakamura of the United States, thanks to the energy-efficient and durable LEDs replace incandescent and fluorescent lamps.

Prof. Isamu Akasaki was born on January 30, 1929. Chiran in the south of Japan. As a child, he liked to spend time in the mountains and the sea, where he caught insects, catching fish and gathering minerals. In 1952. graduated from Kyoto University and began working for Kobe Kogyo Corporation (which is now part of the Fujitsu Group Limited.) In 1959. researcher involved in with the University of Nagoya. Tam conducted research, taught, and finally obtained his PhD (in 1964.). At the same time he was also head of the research laboratory at Matsushita Research Institute Tokyo.

Akasaki Hiroshi Amano collaborated with at the University of Nagoya. Akasakiego first success and Amano was to obtain high-quality crystals of gallium nitride on sapphire substrate. A few years later, have produced in the material p-type semiconductor layer, and in 1992 built the first blue LED.

Outstanding physicist is 21 someone from Japan, whose contribution to science was awarded the Nobel Prize. Prof. Akasaki long time waiting for the moment in which his research will be appreciated. Do not lose hope, though its surroundings suggested that the twentieth century. Did not bring him recognition and fame. ,, I never thought of it that way. You just did your “- said he Akasaki at a conference organized on the day judgment Nobel Prizes in physics. Patience popłaciła – XXI. Proved to be a scientist more gracious.

In 2006. Called his name research center at Nagoya University, in 2009. received the Kyoto Prize (the Japanese equivalent of the Nobel Prize) in 2011. was awarded the Medal of Edison, which is given to the outstanding achievements in the field of electrical engineering. finally had the honor of whom dream of scientists from around the world – has been Nobel Laureate, and at the same time one of the oldest subjects who received this award in physics.
