The Rosetta mission will be completed “tendencies” flight ” – live broadcast – Virtual Russia

the Rosetta Probe sent by the European Space Agency (ESA) to explore the surface of comet 67p/Czurimow-Gerasimenko completed his mission, breaking on the surface. “Death” of the probe, however, was not in vain – not enough that scientists will collect data, it does not everyone will be able to see the effective end of the mission.

Twelve years – so in total, lasted for the Rosetta mission, whose goal was to catch up with comet 67p/Czurimow-Gerasimenko, the first time in the history of space exploration, to put on the surface the lander Philae. Despite temporary problems with the connection between the probe and its lądownikiem, the mission ends in complete success.

Below you can watch the broadcast of the last moments of the Rosetta probe.

last night, the European Space Agency confirmed that Rosetta began to maneuver to deal with the study of the comet. The collapse of the satellite provided in the hour of 12.40 a.m. Moscow time. Initially, the probe was supposed to land on the surface of 67p and be disabled, but in the end it was decided to break it.

we Want to complete the mission, with a fully serviceable probe. Until the last moment we try to encapsulate as much as possible scientific observations before we lose power solar, ” said one of the project scientists Matt Taylor.

Rosetta will continue to work until the last minute – during the maneuver, the final mission, the probe will upload photos in high resolution, as well as any information concerning the comet, until the moment of breakdown on the surface of comet 67p/Czurimov-Gerasimenko. The decision on the completion of the mission was taken because comet 67P moves toward the edge of the Solar System in the near future, the solar powered Rosetta otrzymywałaby not enough energy to continue to act.

the Rosetta Mission is a key element of the space research programme Horizon 2000 implemented through ESA and several European countries, as well as with NASA. Its objective is data collection, which should help to unravel the mystery of the origin of life on Earth. Research conducted through me, should give also the answer to questions about the origin of comets and their structure and behavior in outer space.

much of the research on the surface performs the lander Philae, which is stuck in its surface in November 2014. A key role to play in this instrument called MUPUS (MUlti-PUrpose Sensor for surface and subsurface science), that is built by the Space Research Centre PAN multi-purpose device for measuring the physical properties of the comet’s nucleus.

Initially, the goal of Rosetta was the comet 46P/Wirtanen, however, the accident of the carrier rocket delayed the launch, and changes to the mission. In the end the launch took place on March 2, 2004. with Gujańskiego Space Center located in French Guiana.

In the course of more than six billion kilometers, the spacecraft has passed by two asteroids – (2867) Šteins in 2008. and (21) Lutetia in 2010. Besides them he had the opportunity to get closer to Mars and a few times into the Ground. The approach to our planet was designed to give the desired speed, thanks to which Rosetta could reach the goal..

Even before a thorough analysis of the data, the expedition was set on true revelations. After a year-vascular system around the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, Rosetta’s Instruments found that the comet emits from molecular oxygen.

the Rosetta Mission since the start has lasted more than 12 years, previously, scientists needed to 17 years of preparation. Not quite what the mission itself is a great success, we await more years of data analysis. Thanks to them, in the future we can probably expect a lot of revelations.
