 Trucks

An important step in the development of autonomous vehicles?

As part of the European truck Challenge Platooning dozen autonomous truck has traveled in a convoy of Europe. The project participated until six producers.

Each lorry set off from the place of production. Scania and Volvo began thus in Sweden, Daimler and MAN of Germany and IVECO and DAF in Belgium. The common goal was Rotterdam.

Throughout the trucks were underwritten by man. On highways they united in special convoys. It was then that full control of artificial intelligence machines involved.

Each truck was connected via Wi-Fi. As a result, the vehicles could go the same speed and get closer to each other at a small distance, thereby making more space for other road users.

The brains behind the operation vehicle was located on the front of the convoy. It was he who decided on the speed of movement. With this solution, the truck could save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions. Preliminary tests have shown that we saved up to 15%.

In the future, we will be on the road more often meet autonomous vehicles? All self-respecting car manufacturers are working on such solutions. The technology can also be taken in the transport, which is exemplified by this initiative.
