– Curiosity and an explanation of the past, primarily – that defines the assumptions of the research project Egyptian mummies Marzena Ożarek-Szilke. Together with other graduate students of the historical faculty of the University of Warsaw, Wojciech Ejsmond and Kamila Braulińską for many years he studied the mummies, among others, the National Museum in Warsaw. Tuesday began the “Warsaw Mummy Project” and the study of mummies in 42 Affidea oncology center in Otwock.
– The three-year program is divided into several stages. First, we examine mummies using computer tomography and X-ray. Then, with the participation of Italian military police fingerprint examination was performed, and finally we analyze the mummified bodies of macroscopic – explains Ożarek-Szilke. The results of the research will broaden knowledge of the methods of mummification, but above all give a chance to find traces of cancer and parasites.
the First study were body Panepiego. We know about him is that he was porter at the Temple of Amon, one of the Egyptian gods in Thebes. The mummified body Panepiego is from the ninth and eighth centuries BC Superficial analysis result tomography already gave the first interesting information. Amulet had to protect the deceased during the journey to the afterlife. – We hope that this is just the beginning of curiosities, which we will get – says Ożarek-Szilke.
